Kali Linux 20181 is our first release. This release includes all from our in November. We had to overcome many challenges to make this release a success.
Kernel updated to 4.14
Kali Linux 20181 now has the 4.14.12 kernel. The 4.14 kernel has many new features, and this kernel does not disappoint. However, two of the new features are really noteworthy.
- AMD Security Memory Encryption support Secure Memory encryption is an AMD feature that allows automatic encryption and decryption DRAM. This feature will make systems less vulnerable to . The memory won’t be accessible even with physical access.
- Higher Memory Limits – The current 64-bit 64-bit processors have 64 TB physical address space and 64 TB virtual address space. This was enough for over a decade, but server hardware ships with 64 TB memory so the limit has been exceeded. The 4.14 kernel will support paging. This means these processors can support up to 4 PB physical memory, and as much as 128 PB virtual memory. That’s right, petabytes.
Packet Updates
In addition to the updated kernel, we have also upgraded a number of packages, including zaproxy, secure-socket-funneling, pixiewps, seclists, burpsuite, dbeaver, and reaver. You can get the most recent version of Kali tools, if you have one already.
